Verner Panton (1926-1998)

Verner Panton (1926-1998) is best known for his charismatic and colorful personality. An exceptional person, particularly sensitive to color, form, the role of light and space. During his career, Verner Panton presented a number of modern lamps, with personalities totally different from their Scandinavian contemporaries. Having a remarkable faith in the unlimited possibilities of form, he successfully works to create a new set of theories about the role and influence of light.
" The main purpose of my work is to get people to use their imagination. Most people spend their lives in an eerie gray-beige conformity, with a mortal fear of color. By experimenting with lighting, color, textiles and furniture, and by employing the latest technology, I try to show new ways to encourage people to use their imagination and make their environment more interesting." - Verner Panton.
Verner Panton had a very direct and transparent attitude towards his work as well as form, color and function. At the same time, he used different materials in a thoughtful and bold way. His use of different materials often led his contemporaries to describe his design as "foreign to his time". The great interest in his work today is proof of the contrary.
