From ancient origins to Renaissance mirrors

The use of mirrors dates back to ancient times, when polished pieces of metal served as reflective surfaces. Over time, technology evolved, and glass began to be used during the Middle Ages, but it was during the Renaissance that glass mirrors became objets d'art. Venetian mirrors, in particular, were renowned for their clarity and the delicate art of framing, often adorned with gold and precious elements.

The Baroque and Rococo Eras: Reflections of the Lavish

In the 17th and 18th centuries, mirrors became symbols of luxury and status. Baroque and Rococo mirrors are grandiose and richly decorated, characterized by gilded frames adorned with floral motifs and putti. These mirrors are not just vanity tools, but majestic centerpieces of the opulent interiors of the period.

The 19th Century: Industrialization and Democratization

Industrialization in the 19th century made mirror production less costly and more accessible. Styles became more varied, with the appearance of bevelled mirrors, mantelpiece mirrors and simple framed mirrors adapted to the rise of the bourgeoisie and less busy interiors.

From Modern to Contemporary

Shapes become more streamlined, frames less ornate, and the emphasis is on functionality as well as aesthetics. Contemporary mirrors can also incorporate technologies such as integrated LED lighting or intelligent features.
