The exhibition devoted to Jean-Michel Othoniel at the Petit Palais will run from 28 September 2021 to 09 January 2022.This exhibition was entitled "The theorem of Narcissus". This title evokes Narcissus, who drowned after getting too close to his reflection in the water. This exhibition was an invitation to step back from the way we look at ourselves and the world, and to escape from the disappointing reality. The sculptures that adorn the park and the interior of the exhibition space represent flowers that grow, reflect themselves and the world through polished spheres. "I wanted to create a place of unreality, of enchantment, of illusion, of liberation of the imagination, a place on the border of the dream that allows us, during the visit, to resist the disillusionment of the world." - Jean-Michel Othoniel
The imagination is allowed by these simple shapes placed end to end, which evoke elements of nature, flowers or rivers. The colours of the sculptures echo these evocations.
