Born in Nancy in 1738, Claude Michel, says Clodion, is one of the major figures of French sculpture at the end of the Ancien Régime. Trained in the workshop of his uncle, the sculptor Lambert Sigisbert Adam, then at the École royale des élèves protégés in Paris, he soon revealed an exceptional talent for modeling.
