The Manufacture de Baccarat was founded in 1764 in the eponymous village in Lorraine, with glass production as its initial vocation. At the beginning of the XIXᵉ century, the manufactory specialised fully in crystal, a decisive turning point that enabled the company to gradually assert its artistic and technical identity. The excellence of Baccarat crystal is based on advanced mastery of blowing, cutting and engraving, mobilising highly skilled craftsmen and a tradition handed down through generations.

In the XIXᵉ century, Baccarat won several distinctions at industrial and universal exhibitions, reinforcing the company's recognition in France and internationally. Its creations attracted the attention of European courts, aristocratic families and official clients. The tableware, goblets, cut glasses and monumental pieces reflect an expertise in which the geometric precision, transparency, brilliance and density of the crystal form an identifiable aesthetic signature.

The Manufacture also develops large-scale pieces for palaces, embassies and major institutions. Crystal chandeliers, composed of cut pendants and sculpted elements, became one of Baccarat's emblems. Their design required a combination of techniques, from the creation of the transparent elements to the structural assembly ensuring the balance of the whole. The company also excels in the production of bottles, decorative objects and complete services, adapted to tableware and ornamentation.

Throughout the XXᵉ century, Baccarat has maintained its workshops in Lorraine, perpetuating a craft tradition that combines technical know-how, transmission and mastery of coloured crystal. The craftsmen create works in which classical forms, geometric compositions and more contemporary creations coexist, without breaking with the exacting standards that have characterised the manufacture since its origins. This continuity contributes to the inclusion of Baccarat pieces in museum collections, as well as in private and official interiors.

Today, the Manufacture de Baccarat is an important part of France's glassmaking heritage. It perpetuates a production process in which excellence of craftsmanship, precision of cut and mastery of the crystalline material remain essential. The company has maintained its historic roots in Lorraine, while continuing to produce decorative pieces, lighting and glassware that continue a tradition stretching back nearly three centuries.
