Pierre Vandel was born in 1939 he grew up in Roubaix, in an industrial environment that influenced his relationship with materials and construction from the outset. Trained in industrial design and drawing techniques, in the 1960s he developed a taste for furniture design. At the end of that decade, he created his own label and launched the first pieces that would define his style.

His work expanded considerably during the 1970s, during this period, he developed a visual language based on the association of steel structures, of smoked glass trays, of transparent Plexiglas and brass finishes. This combined use of industrial and decorative materials allows his furniture to play on reflections, transparencies and contrasts. Geometric shapes, straight lines and structural clarity become recurring elements of his creative identity.

Vandel designs coffee tables, , consoles, , occasional furniture, , Shelves, as well as seats with distinctive silhouettes. One of our best-known creations is the Vertebra, designed in the early 1970s, whose articulated structure evokes a stylised spinal column. This piece illustrates his interest in sculptural forms and the search for a balance between functionality and formal expression.

His furniture, characterised by a modernist spirit tinged with glamorous influences, has found an international following. Pierre furniture Vandel are exported to capitals such as New York, London and Tokyo, giving its aesthetic a profile beyond France's borders. Their style, based on elegant modernity and attention to detail, was part of a key period in post-war design, where experimentation with materials went hand in hand with the evolution of contemporary interiors.

Today, the creations of Pierre Vandel are popular in the world of vintage design. Their combination of glass, metal and brass, and their precise geometric composition, reflect a desire to rethink the notion of furniture as both a utilitarian and decorative object. The work of Vandel occupies an important place in the panorama of French design in the 1970s, with its rigour, transparency and visual sophistication.
